It’s been said many times: Skiers are made in the summer.Listed below are Finn Sisu’s summer training programs, plus a few other ideas on how to keep your training fresh.
 

Finn Sisu Programs
Athletic Conditioning for Nordic Skiers
New session starts next Wednesday, May 24th.
Join trainer Jill Winegar and build your ski-specific strength. There’ll be kettlebells, TRX, body-weight exercises, and something new every week. Don’t worry if you aren’t in great shape — she will tailor the workouts to you. All ages and ability levels welcome. It’s the best workout deal in the Twin Cities. Vakava Masters Year-round Training Program
Two options: Tuesday night with coach Greg Weier, or Wednesday morning with coach Kate Ellis. We promise you will ski better next winter … and have a lot of fun out in the woods in the meantime. The focus of our program is technique, both classic and skate. We offer a mix of dryland workouts and rollerskiing (there’s non-rollerski option Wed. a.m.) with some intervals in the mix.
Interested, but not sure if it’s for you? Try a session for free and then decide. Bring a friend and you’ll both get a free gift. We train at Battle Creek.

Vakava Juniors Summer Training Program
Our juniors program meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, with a mix of rollerskiing and dryland workouts. Open to middle school, high school, and college students. No previous experience necessary! Head coaches Greg Weier and Ahvo Taipale will get you ready for the 2017-18 racing season.

Other summer training options:
Paddling with the Rice Creek Boat Club
For youth ages 11-18: Learn how to canoe, kayak, and SUP this summer at Long Lake in New Brighton. Many class options. Come this Saturday, May 20 from 11 am to 1 pm and try out all the boats for free! More info here.

 

 

 

 

Ice skating with the St. Paul Figure Skating Club
Skating is all about moving smoothly over a cold surface while balancing on one leg, which makes it great training for cross-country skiers (so says Bryan Fish, development coach with the US ski team.) Women’s Summer “Brick” Training with Loppet Nordic Racing
Designed for women who want to compete in the Tri-Loppet, these workout sessions combine mountain/road biking, trail running, and strength workouts.
